The Cinnamon Bun Book Store

★★★

I’ll admit right away — this isn’t necessarily the type of book I usually reach for. My reading tastes are honestly a little bit all over the place. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a thriller, sometimes historical fiction, sometimes something a little deeper… and every now and then, a cozy story like this just feels right.

The Cinnamon Bun Book Store by Laurie Gilmore, part of the Dream Harbor series, falls into that warm, comforting category.

The story centers around Hazel, who owns a small bookstore in the charming town of Dream Harbor. One day she begins noticing mysterious messages hidden inside some of the books in her shop. What follows is a sort of treasure hunt through the town, with clues tucked away in unexpected places. It adds a playful little mystery element that keeps the story moving.

Noah, the local fisherman, ends up joining her along the way. He’s the kind of character who feels easy to like — friendly, patient, and clearly interested in Hazel long before she fully realizes it herself. As they follow the clues together, the two of them slowly grow closer.

What really stands out in this book is the atmosphere. Dream Harbor is one of those small towns that feels cozy and welcoming from the very beginning. Little shops, familiar faces, and a strong sense of community make the whole setting feel comforting. Reading it almost feels like stepping into a small seaside town where life moves a little slower — and where cinnamon buns seem to appear at just the right moments.

For me, the story was simply enjoyable in a very gentle way. It’s not a book filled with big twists or high stakes. Instead, it leans into warmth, small-town charm, and a predictable but satisfying romance.

And I’ll also admit something else — the cover absolutely caught my eye. It’s beautiful, and the edition I picked up even had leaves painted along the edges of the pages. Sometimes a book ends up in your hands simply because it looks too pretty to leave on the shelf… and this was definitely one of those times. 📚🌿
